Below are some of the more recently identified terms for common issues seen amongst people with eating disorders. Today, the diagnoses of EDNOS cases far surpasses those of the earlier identified disorders and what used to be the exception is now the rule. But in the early ‘90s, the American Psychiatric Association introduced a new diagnostic category: eating disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS)- which includes patients who don’t meet the exact criteria for anorexia or bulimia but still have very troubled relationships with food or distorted body images. Not only has the affected demographic changed, so has the diagnosis. For decades, there were two distinctly identified eating disorders: anorexia and bulimia. But recent cases have veered away from that stigma to include older women in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s and even boys and men. But I came across some interesting information recently regarding eating disorders that can at least begin a dialogue about the ever-growing issue. ![]() That’s more often than I look in a mirror. On the other hand, per iOS 12’s new Screen Time feature, I’ve picked up and looked at my phone on average about 60 times per day in the past week. With the exception of my wife, nobody sees my phone’s home screen. And I did hide the app in a folder with a transit app that I rarely used, renaming the folder “Other.” But that just meant that I either had to dig for the app even more, or pull down in iOS and type in “FatSecret” to pull it up to log calories. “Oh, you think wearing an untucked button-down is fooling anyone? Nice try, Chunk.” Taken from another angle, it made it seem like being overweight was shameful, something to be kept secret. On the one hand, it felt like a taunt from the app-makers and the not-so-healthy parts of my brain. The name FatSecret seemed problematic from every angle. That was the URL I had to type in every time I wanted to log in my lunch of lentils or chana masala. It hung there on my phone’s screen everyday when I went to log in my two hard-boiled eggs and an apple for breakfast. The only problem was its name: FatSecret.įatSecret. There were no ads, a clean interface, a huge database of foods, the ability to easily track macros, and all of it with a simple and austere mobile app and website that was quick to load and fast to respond. It’s buried underneath 39 other options if you search “calorie counter” you have to scroll for a significant amount of time to even find it. Hunting around further, I found a recommendation for another app, hidden deep in the App Store. Lose It also kept trying to lure me into signing up for a $39.99 a year premium membership, which promised to help me do things like keep track of how much water I drank. This worked fine if I snapped a pic of, say, a can of ginger ale, but not so great if I snapped a pic of a chicken-salad sandwich. Lose It’s big promise is that you can snap photos of your food before you eat it, and it’ll calculate how many calories are in your meal. I tried MyFitnessPal’s closest competitor, Lose It, and found myself equally disenchanted. There was also the not-so-great news that 150 million MyFitnessPal accounts had been hacked earlier this year, meaning that whatever password I was using circa 2012 might be floating around the web. It had been bought by Under Armour in 2015, and it was now filled with endless entreaties to become a premium member for only $9.99 a month (or just $49.99 a year). I reinstalled the app on my phone and quickly discovered that, like everything else good from the internet in 2012 (Instagram, Grooveshark, MyFitnessPal had fallen from grace. I became aware of the stunning number of calories in tortilla chips and IPAs, and became a fan of raw almonds, apples, and chicken breasts. constantly reminds you how not hot you are.) I used an app called MyFitnessPal, which I kept on my phone and could also use on my laptop, and carefully logged my meals and snacks. There’s one famous meme from this episode, and it has nothing to do with its plot or quotes whatsoever. Most Meme Potential: Season 5, Episode 17: "DFW" Gina’s unexplainable quotes always make great memes, and there’s no better episode to find them than "The Party." "I was thinking how I would make the perfect American president, based upon my skill set, dance ability and bloodlust" is one memorable quote, along with "My mother cried the day I was born because she knew she would never be better than me," and we also learn about her not-so-secret desire to see Richard Dreyfuss hunkered over eating dog food. Perhaps the most underappreciated source of meme content in this episode is the civilian administrator Gina, who has a number of bizarre lines that are hard to forget throughout this episode. Everything from Jake’s line "I’d like your eight dollar-est bottle of wine, please" to "Don’t move as a group! You’re not gazelles" has become a viral meme. This isn’t the only meme to come from a quote in this episode. One of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s most famous meme formats consists of the quote "Ooh, self-burn! On the day of Captain Holt’s birthday, all his co-workers are invited to his house for a party, where they can embarrass him, themselves and everyone else in front of his sophisticated friends and husband. The quotes in this episode are some of the most memorable of the show’s entire lifespan. Most Popular Memes: Season 1, Episode 16: "The Party" Here are two of the best episodes to find meme content while you're watching B99. Needless to say, there are a lot of loyal Brooklyn Nine-Nine viewers out there who quote it regularly, and that’s led to some notable meme formats, both famous and obscure. Back in 2018, the show was actually going to be canceled, only for its fan base to petition it back into existence at NBC. Often compared to The Office and Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has the honor of being the only one of the three classics still airing today. Instead, it’s a laid-back comedy about the overly enthusiastic detective Jake Peralta (played by Andy Samberg), the emotionless Captain Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher) and the rest of Brooklyn’s 99th precinct as they seek to waste tax dollars on donuts and avoid getting any actual work done. Here, you won’t see detectives wearing sunglasses at night or avenging the murder of their wives.
